As the Talawanda School District’s graduating seniors prepared for the next chapter of their lives, many received support from local organizations during a ceremony May 14.

Each year, local organizations including the Oxford Rotary Club, the Oxford Kiwanis Club, the Greater Oxford Community Foundation and more provide dozens of scholarships for Talawanda graduates. Many of the scholarships pass through the community foundation, which maintains a number of individual funds.

The Greater Oxford Community Foundation awarded a total of 45 scholarships to graduating seniors, including from the Rotary Club, the Oxford Chamber of Commerce, the Talawanda Athletic Boosters and several individual funds. Beyond the scholarships from organizations through the community foundation, Krupa Patel was also awarded a scholarship directly from the Oxford Kiwanis Club. The scholarship awards followed a ceremony recognizing the seniors graduating summa cum laude this year.

Future Farmers of America awarded memorial scholarships in honor of alumni to nine students this year. Recipients included Adam Achterman, Krystal Bunger, Taylor Gregory, Adam Kolb, Emma Lake, Sara Petri, Andrew Root, Marissa Shepherd Layman and Shelby Tussey.

Kelsi Carver, Lilly Chenoweth, Ellery Duvall, Lauren Dysert, Addison Greene, Addison Hall, Olivia Naiman, Dustee Wagner and Elizabeth Zettler each received two scholarships.

Other scholarship recipients included Adam Achterman, Ysabella Anders, Clayton Bennett, Carley Betz, Krystal Bunger, Kadi Carver, Kylie Cobb, Addison Danner, Julian Danoff, Cameron Gieske, Scarlett Hillman, Vanessa Howard, Oliver James, Emma Lake, Cale Leitch, Avery McDaniel, Tamika Meza, Mathias Millitzer, Lindsay Offenburger, Julie Page, Krupa Patel, Lillian Reardon, Margaret Stenger, Jeremiah Trahan, Riley Upchurch, Julie Watt and Ryan Wright.

The Oxford NAACP also awarded scholarships to three students this year: Ysabella Anders, Krupa Patel and Jeremiah Traham. The NAACP scholarships go to local students of color and are paid for primarily through fundraising at the chapter's annual Freedom Fund Banquet.

Beyond Talawanda, the Auxiliary Board of McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital awarded scholarships to three students at Indiana schools nearby. Franklin County High School senior Summer Hoyt, Union County High School senior Hallie Huges and Indiana University sophomore Julia West were selected as this year’s Auxiliary Clinical Health Professions Scholars.

Talawanda’s seniors celebrated graduation during a ceremony on May 22.
