Male threatens people with knife, several alcohol violations reported to OPD

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to a male threatening people with a knife, as well as several alcohol violations, between Sept. 14 and 21.

On Sept. 15, just after 6 p.m., OPD received several calls throughout the evening about a male threatening people with a knife, according to the media report.

Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East Sycamore Street in reference to a call, according to the incident report. The caller told police that when he tried entering Lang Manor, an apartment building across the street, the suspect was standing on the other side with a knife. The suspect pointed the knife at the male, who then ran away from the building.

Officers were unable to locate the suspect or anyone at Lang Manor who knew him. About an hour later, officers were dispatched to University Avenue for a similar incident with the same suspect.

The caller said she was sitting on her front porch in the 300 block of University Avenue when the suspect called out to her and began “running/jogging” toward her, according to the incident report. The female went inside her residence, and the male sat on the porch with a knife for a minute before leaving.

When officers arrived on scene, they were informed by several other individuals in the area that the suspect went west on East Sycamore Street from University Avenue. Officers received another call that the suspect was inside Lang Manor.

Officers arrived at Lang Manor and observed a female on the steps speaking to the suspect, who was seated against a wall. Officers took the suspect into custody without issue, and he was transported to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital for an evaluation, where it was determined further psychiatric care would be necessary. At least one caller said he wanted to press charges. 

On Sept. 16, just before 12:30 p.m., a female reported that someone flattened the rear passenger tire on her car, according to the OPD media report.

From Sept. 17-20, 13 separate individuals were charged with alcohol-related offenses, including underage consumption of alcohol and open container violations, according to the OPD media report. Of these individuals, three also had fictitious identification, and two were charged with operating a vehicle under the influence.

On Sept. 17, just before 1:30 a.m., officers, along with the Oxford Fire Department, were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Tallawanda Road for a male who fell from a window on the fourth floor, according to the OPD media report. Officers did not find evidence that the incident was intentional or that foul play was involved, and the individual was transported to UC West Chester, according to the incident report.

On Sept. 17, just after 3 p.m., Tractor Supply Company reported a theft had occurred earlier in the day, according to the OPD media report. The business was able to provide officers with footage of a “license plate and the suspects,” according to the incident report.

On Sept. 18, just after 1:30 p.m., the College Artisans Shop reported a theft incident, according to the OPD media report.

On Sept. 18, just before 3 p.m., Wild Berry reported that an unknown female stole jewelry from its business on Sept. 15, according to the OPD media report.

Also during the week, OPD responded to a domestic violence incident and a broken fire hydrant.
