The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to two calls for suicidal individuals and made two arrests for individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs between May 12 and May 19.

The first DUI charge on May 12 came as officers responded to a crash with no injuries at a Church Street intersection, according to OPD’s media report. One driver was found to be operating a vehicle impaired and was arrested.

The second DUI charge came just before 1:30 a.m. on May 18. Officers received a call that an intoxicated male was in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle, and he was found to have driven to the location. When the responding officers attempted to arrest him, he resisted, resulting in an additional charge for resisting arrest.

OPD made one additional report related to harmful substances on May 16. A male was found passed out on a Spring Street sidewalk just before 11 a.m., and officers “discovered that he was huffing keyboard duster which caused his medical condition,” according to the media report. He was issued a summons for abusing harmful intoxicants.

According to the Butler County court docket, another individual was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol in Oxford Township on May 16. The person was also cited for failure to control a vehicle, and the citation indicates that the driver caused a crash with an injury.

Officers were dispatched for two separate incidents related to suicidal people during the week. In the first incident on May 13, the subject was transported to the hospital. The Oxford Fire Department was dispatched in addition to OPD for the second incident on May 14, which was thought to be a possible overdose.

Throughout the week, officers also responded to three incidents of theft, one case of criminal mischief for a broken front door window and one incident of vandalism after someone threw an object at a vehicle, breaking the car window.
