The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to two incidents of drivers operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or drugs between May 19 and May 26. The department also responded to multiple calls for theft, including of a dog, during the week.

On May 19, officers cited a woman for operating a vehicle under the influence before 11 a.m., according to the department’s media report. The woman refused a drug test, according to the citation, and she had a previous DUI charge in 2023.

On May 25, a driver caused a single-vehicle crash while driving under the influence, according to the OPD media report. The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. and resulted in three separate charges, according to the court docket. A breathalizer test found the driver’s blood alcohol concentration at .176, double the legal limit of 0.08.

The two DUI incidents come after two more DUIs the week before.

OPD officers also handled a call from a woman on May 19 who said her ex-boyfriend moved out suddenly, taking all of her belongings with him. The ex-boyfriend also stole her dog, the victim told police.

On May 21, officers responded to a call for burglary. A man who was moving his belongings to Cincinnati reported that someone had stolen items from inside his home while he was gone, but the police have no current suspects.

On May 25, a basketball hoop was broken and the rim was stolen while the owners were out of town. Neighbors reported seeing teenage males using the hoop before breaking it and taking the rim with them.

Also during the week, OPD responded to one incident of criminal trespassing for an unknown subject living in a storage closet at an apartment complex, a structure fire, a squad assist for a subject in mental distress and a death.
