OPD responds to multiple reports of theft, damage and drug possession
The Oxford Police Department handled two reports of theft last week, with a total stolen value of nearly $300.

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) received reports of drug possession and damage to a building and mailbox between June 30 to July 7. OPD also responded to theft reports from nearby businesses such as Speedway and Walmart.
On June 30, just after 9 p.m., an unknown woman took approximately $100 worth of merchandise from Speedway on Locust Street according to the department’s media report. The stolen merchandise included bandanas, sunglasses, ice cream, gum and hats, according to the incident report.
On July 1, just after 10 a.m., a Walmart employee filed a theft report for an incident from June 25. The woman stole nearly $200 worth of merchandise, which included cat litter, fireworks and a tank top, according to the incident report. Officers learned she was already in the Butler County Jail after another investigation conducted by OPD.
On July 2, just before 3 p.m., officers responded to a call from Oxford Commons about damage to an apartment building, according to the department's media report. It appeared that a vehicle made an impression on an exterior wall, causing it to bow in, according to the incident report. There is currently no suspect or suspected vehicle.
On July 3, just before 10 a.m., a local business reported damage to its mailbox that occurred overnight, according to the OPD media report. This is the second incident in the past six months, and the business reported the damage in case it continues.
On July 4, just before 9:30 a.m., suspected methamphetamine was found in a vehicle during a traffic stop, according to the OPD media report. Charges will be issued after a laboratory analysis.
On July 6, just after 8 p.m., a welfare check was conducted on a woman in a vehicle at Dollar General, according to the OPD media report. A loaded hypodermic needle was observed in the center console, according to the incident report. The woman was cited for possessing drug abuse instruments and later released.
Also during the week, OPD handled threats from a juvenile to another child, euthanizing a deer and an assault.
