OPD responds to multiple theft reports; one woman scammed out of nearly $4,000
The Oxford Police Department received multiple reports of theft, including stolen wallets, purses and packages.

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to multiple reports of theft from June 23 to 30. A woman also reported to the OPD that she was scammed out of nearly $4,000 through Bitcoin and Apple gift cards.
On June 24, just before 5 p.m., a woman received confirmation that her package was delivered, but she found it was missing when she returned home hours later, according to the OPD media report. There are currently no suspects.
On June 25, just before 11:30 a.m., a woman reported to OPD that she had been scammed after calling a phone number from a pop-up screen on her computer, according to the department’s media report. The value stolen totaled almost $4,000 in Bitcoin and Apple gift cards. A report was filed.
Also on June 25, just after 1 p.m., an officer observed a male with active warrants in the backseat of a car, according to the OPD media report. The man fled on foot after an attempted traffic stop by the officer and did not respond to police when ordered to stop. The male was not located.
On June 28, just before 2 a.m., a male reported his wallet stolen when its Apple AirTag pinged to an address in Oxford but was not found when police arrived, according to the department’s media report. The man had been delivering for DoorDash in Oxford earlier in the day and said it must have fallen out of his pocket. A report was filed, and there is currently no suspect.
On June 28, an electric bicycle was stolen from a bike rack in an apartment breezeway between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., according to the OPD media report. The bicycle, valued at $3,000, was secured to the rack by a bike lock. There are currently no known suspects.
On June 29, just after 9 p.m., a call was made about a juvenile at a local restaurant who was a runaway and had cut their ankle monitor off, according to the OPD media report. Officers confirmed this, and the juvenile was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
Also during the week, OPD responded to calls about two stolen purses, a juvenile burned by a sparkler and a man with an active warrant.
