OPD responds to theft, incidents of resisting arrest, more during busy week

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to theft reports and several instances of resisting arrest between March 2 and 9.

On March 3, just after 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Bishop Street for a report of vandalism, according to the OPD media report. An unknown food substance had been smeared on the front door and two windows were damaged, according to the incident report.

A resident agreed to provide OPD with security camera footage of the incident. No suspects have been officially identified at this time.

On March 4, just before 3 p.m., a woman called OPD to report that an attempt was made to remove money from her bank account, according to the OPD media report. The woman discovered this when she learned her personal information attached to the account had been changed without her permission.

On March 5, just after 1 p.m., officers responded to Walmart for a shoplifting in progress, according to the OPD media report. An employee with Walmart’s loss prevention observed a woman at self-checkout neglecting to scan some items in her cart and attempting to leave the store with almost $800 worth of merchandise, according to the incident report.

The woman was discovered to have a warrant out of the Preble County Sheriff’s Office, and was transferred into their custody after being arrested.

On March 5, just after 2:30 p.m., a male reported damage to his vehicle on North Beech Street, according to the OPD media report. It is unknown how the damage occurred.

On March 5, just before 5 p.m., a resident at Parkview Arms Apartments reported that items had been stolen from his doorstep during the day, according to the OPD media report.

On March 5, just after 5 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop for fictitious registration and found the driver and passenger to have active warrants, according to the OPD media report. Both were taken into custody and transported to the Butler County Jail.

On March 5, just after 9 p.m., officers responded to a burglary in progress at the multiplex residence on 5402 College Corner Pike, according to the OPD media report. Witnesses said that a male attempted to enter through a window and was scared off. According to the incident report, the residents had been experiencing these issues recently.

On March 7, just after 1 a.m., officers were alerted by hospital security that two males had broken glass in a parking lot and were heavily intoxicated, according to the OPD media report. One of the males became aggressive upon the police’s arrival, and he was asked to leave the property.

The male began yelling and shouting slurs as he left the property, and attempted to flee and resist arrest, according to the incident report. He was caught and taken into custody.

On March 8, just before 9:30 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop for multiple violations, according to the OPD media report. It was discovered that the driver was intoxicated and did not have a valid driver’s license, according to the incident report. The driver was arrested.

Also during the week, OPD handled various incidents of underage intoxication, domestic violence and disorderly conduct.
