OPD responds to underage intoxication, theft over two weeks

The Oxford Police Department also responded to several other instances, including a loose horse, a vehicle fire and open liquor container violations.

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to several theft and underage intoxication cases between March 16 and 30.

On March 16, just before 4 p.m., officers responded to a parking complaint near 15 N. Beech St., according to the OPD media report. The occupant of the car was issued an open container liquor citation.

On March 17, just before 5:30 p.m., a woman reported packages placed by the mailboxes of her apartment building were stolen, according to the OPD media report. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

On March 19, just after midnight, officers received a call from Speedway on South Locust Street about a suspicious male inside the store, according to the OPD media report. The male had eaten several food items without the ability to pay. The male was told he was trespassing and had to pay at a later date, according to the incident report.

Speedway called again approximately an hour and a half later to report that he was back, according to the incident report. The male was arrested and transported to the Butler County Jail.

On March 19, just after 5:30 p.m., a male was observed urinating in view of the public right of way, according to the OPD media report. He was issued a citation and released.

On March 19, just before 9 a.m., a male fell off a roof at a house party, according to the OPD media report. He was transported to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital. 

On March 19, just after 10:30 a.m., two males received open liquor container citations, according to the OPD media report.

On March 19, just after 2 p.m., a traffic crash occurred in the 500 block of East High Street, according to the OPD media report. There were minor injuries, and a report was completed.

On March 19, just after 3 p.m., a male received an open liquor container citation, according to the OPD media report.

On March 19, just after 3:30 p.m., an underage male was observed on the sidewalk with an open can of beer, according to the OPD media report. He was issued citations for an open liquor container and underage possession.

On March 19, just after 4 p.m., someone called to report his car had just been stolen, according to the OPD media report.

On March 19, just before 5 p.m., a male was arrested for underage public intoxication, according to the OPD media report. The male was also in possession of fictitious identification, and a report was filed.

On March 20, just before 10 a.m., an AC unit in the 600 block of Ogden Court was damaged after being shot with pellets, according to the OPD media report. A report was taken, and there are no known suspects.

On March 20, just before 11:30 a.m., a female reported that her car had been tampered with in the 100 block of West Vine Street, according to the OPD media report. She discovered the hood of her car was left open, and items inside the car were strewn around. There was also an open can of beer left in the cupholder.

Nothing was reported stolen from the car, and it is unclear how it was entered, according to the incident report.

On March 20, just before 5 p.m., a male reported that he was scammed out of $4,000, according to the OPD media report. The male received a call from someone claiming to be from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, who informed him that he had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for jury duty.

On March 22, just after 6:30 p.m., a male came to the OPD lobby to report his wallet stolen, according to the OPD media report. The male had gone to the Oxford Community Park the day before and left his wallet in his car, according to the incident report. There are no known suspects at this time.

On March 23, just before 4:30 p.m., a woman came to the OPD lobby to report she was the victim of an online fraud attempt, according to the OPD media report. The woman had received a pop-up on her Amazon account saying her account was blocked, and a phone number was attached.

The woman gave the callers several items of personal information before becoming suspicious and ceasing all communication, according to the incident report.

On March 24, just before 3 p.m., a female reported that she was given drugs and sexually assaulted, according to the OPD media report. An investigation is ongoing.

On March 25, just before 5:30 p.m., officers responded to Kramer Elementary for a report of a suspicious person, according to the OPD media report. Upon arrival, a male was found experiencing an overdose and was treated by the Oxford Fire Department (OFD) before being transported to the hospital. After he was treated, he was transported to Butler County Jail, according to the incident report.

On March 26, just before 4:30 p.m., damage to an AC unit at Oxford West Apartments was reported, according to the OPD media report. The damage is suspected to be caused by a BB gun or another small-caliber weapon.

On March 28, just after 5 a.m., officers responded to a car fire on Reaghs Way, according to the OPD media report. The fire was quickly controlled and put out by OFD.

On March 28, just before 2 p.m., OPD responded to a call about a horse running on College Corner Pike, according to the OPD media report. The horse traveled through the city until it was eventually caught and euthanized. 

On March 28, just before midnight, officers arrested an individual for driving under the influence in the 600 block of South College Avenue, according to the OPD media report.

On March 29, just after 12:30 p.m., a female reported her car had been rummaged through in the 300 block of North Beech Street, according to the OPD media report. The hood and trunk of the car were also left open, and the hood had multiple scratches, according to the incident report. A report was filed.
