Man gets multiple charges for violating protection order; OPD responds to theft reports
One man is facing multiple charges for violating a protection order and the Oxford Police Department responded to several thefts June 9-16.

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to multiple reports of theft from June 9 to June 16. OPD also issued multiple charges for a man, including domestic violence and abduction, after he violated a protection order.
On June 11, just before noon, two men were arrested after shoplifting from Speedway on South Locust Street, according to the OPD media report. Both men also had drug abuse items and were taken to the Butler County Jail.
On June 12, a call was made just after 6 p.m. about a suspicious vehicle after the driver was seen going through a dumpster, according to the department’s media report. OPD spoke with the dumpster owner, who said he “did not care that he was going through the dumpster that was in his driveway,” according to the incident report. When officers made contact with the driver, they found he had a suspended license. It was also confirmed that he had a warrant through Butler County and was arrested.
On June 13 at noon, the owner of Village Green Apartments reported that the office window was pushed open sometime overnight, according to the OPD media report. It is unknown if someone entered the building.
Just before 9:30 p.m. the next day, officers were called to a house available for rent under Village Green. The property owners of 520 S Main St., which was unoccupied, found that the front door was unlocked and the house was flooded.
Officers discovered a roll of toilet paper inside a toilet, various sinks left running and dresser drawers lying on the floor and bed, according to an incident report. One of the owners noted that the first floor “bonus room” had an unlocked window and lifted screen, which is how the owner thinks the individual entered the house.
The owners told officers that they’d been experiencing issues with a current tenant. One of the owners eventually sent a letter to the tenant, stating their lease would not be renewed. They believed the tenant started doing things to the properties after this, as the report with the Village Green office occurred shortly after this.
Also on June 14, just after 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a call about a man trying to kick in an apartment door at Parkview Arms, according to the OPD media report. The man was not at the apartment when police arrived. A woman shared with police the events leading up to that incident and that she had a protection order against the man. A warrant has been filed for violation of a protection order, domestic violence, abduction and attempted burglary.
Also during the week, OPD responded to unauthorized bank account charges, a child bitten by the family dog, a stolen checkbook and cashed fraudulent checks and two scooters stolen within the past two weeks.
