Oxford Free Press wins 8 awards at ONMA Fellowship Day

The nonprofit was named newspaper of the year in its division and placed in seven other Hooper Award categories.

The Oxford Free Press received the Hooper Award for the Newspaper of the Year in the Division B category during the Ohio News Media Association (ONMA) and Collegiate Fellowship Day in Westerville, Ohio, on March 26.

The newspaper also placed in seven other Division B Hooper Award categories for work completed in 2025 during the event at the Quest Conference Center hosted by the ONMA.

Newspapers that submitted work for Hooper Awards were divided into Division A and Division B based on circulation numbers, with Division B papers having a circulation of 2,000 copies or less. 

The Oxford Free Press placed first in its division for original columns,  “Media Matters: ‘Boring,’ ‘Biased’ and ‘Bad’” and two other columns, written by Richard Campbell, co-founder of the Oxford Free Press. The Oxford Free Press staff placed second for overall news coverage in its division.

The paper also placed first in its division in the in-depth reporting category for its submission of “‘An egregious affront:’ Survey results show widespread opposition to arena on Cook Field,’” written by former editor-in-chief Sean Scott. The paper also placed first in its division in the newspaper design, advertising, house advertisement and special edition or section categories for work by design editor Macey Chamberlin.
