Oxford honors veterans at annual celebration

The City of Oxford hosted its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11.

The Oxford Community Band performed at the event, and Band President Gregg Wentzell played “Taps” at the end of the ceremony.

The families and friends of active-duty service members and veterans placed carnations on a wreath presented by Officer Bill Thissen of the City of Oxford Police Department. Attendees also heard Veteran's Day messages from Mayor Bill Snavely and Daniel Anderson and an invocation from Oxford Bible Fellowship Pastor Emanuel Istrate.

Children from the Learning Blocks Preschool gave out hand-painted American flag art pieces to veterans who attended the ceremony. Students in the Talawanda Middle School choir sang the national anthem, and members of the Miami University NROTC presented the colors.
