Oxford is hosting its fourth OXtoberfest on Saturday Sept. 13 from 1-8 p.m. in the Uptown parks area.

This year’s festivities will feature 15 vendors, nine food trucks and a variety of different community organizations, according to Seth Cropenbaker, economic development specialist for the city of Oxford.

Oxford Puzzle and Putt will have a presence at the event, bringing portable golf holes for visitors to enjoy.

Steinkeller is the title sponsor for the event, with multiple other local restaurants and businesses contributing to filling out Uptown.

The Stein Holding Contest will feature three times during the event, at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Oxford’s Shademakers will provide a photoshoot backdrop throughout the event for friends and family to get together for a fall-themed picture.

There will also be kid-themed activities available at the event. From facepainting and pumpkin decorating to a variety of different yard games and activities.

A few bands will perform during the event, such as Dulahan, a celtic-inspired group, the Bergstasse Boys, a German-themed group and Jadghornblasergruppe, a wandering German-hunting horn band. Each band will play a variety of music, including covers, traditional music and one will feature the use of bagpipes.

The event will also feature a variety of German beers, craft beers and ciders. Misrule Brewing will also provide beverages during the event, according to the OXtoberfest website.

While the festival has seen success so far, Cropnebaker believes that there is still room for improvement within the community.

“We’ve done a pretty good job at blending in the traditional and expected elements of a traditional Oktoberfest celebration,” Cropenbaker said. “But we aren’t an Oktoberfest – we are an OXtoberfest.”

Cropenbaker hopes to bring both local and student communities, clubs and vendors together at the event to create a diverse and fully “Oxford” take on the traditional fall festival.
