Underage intoxication causes several incidents in February’s first week
The Oxford Police Department also responded to reports of theft, burglary and breaking and entering.
The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to several incidents caused by intoxicated individuals between Feb. 2 and 9.
On Feb. 2, just before 3:30 p.m., OPD was contacted by Miami Credit Union because they suspected one of their clients had been a victim of fraud, according to the OPD media report. The bank manager told officers the female had tried to withdraw large amounts of cash, which was unusual for her, based on previous behavior.
After speaking with the female, officers confirmed she was a victim of fraud. The week prior, the female had received a tracking number for a package she ordered. A pop-up appeared instructing her to call a number. The person who asked told the female he was with the FBI and walked her through a series of instructions to wire money.
On Feb. 5, just after 10:30 a.m., the maintenance man at Fox and Hounds Apartments reported signs of forced entry and the theft of various tools, according to the OPD media report.
On Feb. 6, just after 2 a.m., a male was seen jumping on top of his vehicle on East High Street, according to the OPD media report. Once officers made contact with the male, he was found to be intoxicated and under the age of 21, and was charged accordingly.
On Feb. 7, just after midnight, officers were dispatched to North Beech Street for a vandalism report, according to the OPD media report. The residents informed officers a couple of males entered the house from the unlocked back door and ran through the first floor, dumping milk everywhere.
The residents told OPD that a similar incident happened to their friends in a different house, according to the incident report.
Also on Feb. 7, at 2:30 a.m., an unknown male was reportedly banging on the back door of a house in the 6100 block of Vereker Drive, according to the OPD media report. The male was found to be intoxicated and underage, and was arrested and released with multiple charges.
Also on Feb. 7, just after 5 p.m., a male was observed urinating on the sidewalk near the intersection of North Poplar Street and East Church Street, according to the OPD media report. He was found to be underage after being detained and admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages. The male was cited and released.
Also on Feb. 7, just before 9 p.m., a male reported that he had been assaulted by three males at Lil Rudy's Church Street, according to the OPD media report. The male reported that, while talking with a woman at the bar, three males approached him from behind and began punching him in the face. He was left with a bloody nose, according to the incident report.
The bar’s manager was contacted to potentially access CCTV footage of the incident. The suspects are unknown at this time.
On Feb. 8, just before 2:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to East Park Place for a female attempting to get into cars, asking for help, according to the OPD media report. The female was found to be intoxicated and unable to care for herself, and was transported to the hospital.
Also on Feb. 8, just before 9:30 a.m., officers responded to Kroger for a report of fraud, according to the OPD media report. No suspect has been identified, but a report was taken.
