The Audubon Miami Valley (AMV) chapter celebrated its 50th anniversary on Monday, April 6, at the Knolls of Oxford, highlighting its five decades of environmental education and conservation efforts.
AMV, the local chapter of the National Audubon Society in Butler and Preble counties, has been serving Oxford and nearby areas since 1976.
The nonprofit aims to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth’s biological diversity, according to their mission statement.

The organization holds regular events and field trips that help inform locals on environmental issues in the region. Other activities and resources include invasive species removal, bird seed sales and birding sites.
Liz Woedl, former president and social media and publicity chair of AMV, spoke to the Oxford Free Press at the event about the organization’s impact.
“A lot of it has to do with education,” Woedl said. “Mostly teaching kids and people about our nature and how we fit into the scheme of things.”
