Black Covered Bridge closed for construction
Oxford residents looking to walk on the Oxford Area Trails this summer will need to start somewhere other than the Black Covered Bridge, which is closed for construction.
The Black Covered Bridge, the start of the Oxford Area Trail System (OATS), closed beginning May 27 for a renovation project. Construction is expected to last up to 90 days.
Oxford City Council approved a $370,000 contract plus a 10% contingency with Jagger Construction, LLC for the construction last December. The improvements will include replacing siding and roofing, extending the roof rafters and applying fire retardant to exposed wood.
The rest of the OATS and other walking trails in Oxford remain open. Cyclists and pedestrians can enter the paved trail from Leonard Howell Park, Peffer Park and the DeWitt Cabin parking lot. A separate paved portion of the trail extends from the Oxford Community Park along Brookville and Oxford Reily Road to Talawanda Middle School.
