Free Press welcomes summer reporter, first copy editor

The Oxford Free Press is excited to announce our two summer interns, Kethan Babu and Taylor Powers!

Babu will serve as a full-time reporting intern this summer, while Powers is coming on as the Free Press’ first part-time copy editor. Powers started her internship on May 20, with Babu set to begin in the first week of June.

Babu is a rising senior at Miami University, double majoring in journalism and finance. He’s originally from Detroit. During his time at Miami, Babu has been deeply involved in The Miami Student, where he currently serves as the sports editor and has more than 150 bylines.

This year, Babu won a regional Mark of Excellence award from the Society of Professional Journalists for a profile he wrote. His stories have ranged from features and profiles to game recaps written throughout the midwest. Beyond The Student, Babu contributes to Riverfront U, covering basketball and talking about Miami athletics on their podcast.

Powers, a rising junior at Miami, is studying journalism and media and communication. She currently serves as opinion editor for The Student and managing editor for The Miami Student Magazine.

Beyond curating The Student’s opinion section, Powers also co-hosts the award-winning podcast “Bizarre Butler County.” She has previous experience covering Oxford Lane Library for the Oxford Observer and serves as vice president for Miami Dance Corps, which she has been a member of for three years.
