Make a plan to vote in the November 3 election

Ohio citizens have until Oct. 5 to register to vote or update their voter information for the Nov. 3, 2026 election. Early voting begins on Oct. 6 and continues through Nov. 1, with varied days and hours over that four-week period. You can view the early voting hours at VoteOhio.gov.
While there’s still time to act, take a minute to review what is required to successfully vote in the midterm election.
How to register to vote or update your voter registration in Ohio
If you are a U.S. citizen, will be 18 years of age by Nov. 3 and will have lived in Ohio for 30 days prior to Election Day, you are eligible to vote in Ohio and must register or update your voter information no later than Oct. 5.
If you have an unexpired Ohio Driver’s License or Ohio ID, you can register to vote or update your address at VoteOhio.gov. If you don’t have an Ohio Driver’s License or Ohio ID, you can use the last four digits of your social security number to register or to update your name/address by completing a paper voter registration/update form. Go to VoteOhio.gov to print the form or call the Butler County Board of Elections (513-887-3700) and have a form mailed to you.
If you’re registered to vote in Ohio but haven’t voted in several years, make sure that your voter registration is still active and that your address is up to date by going to VoteOhio.gov and clicking on the “Check Registration Status” link.
How to cast your ballot
The ID that you have determines whether you can vote in person or must vote by mail.
If you have an unexpired Ohio Driver’s License/ID, a U.S. passport or a military/veterans ID, you can vote in person during early voting at the Board of Elections, at your polling location on Election Day or by mail.
If you don’t have an unexpired Ohio Driver’s License/ID, a U.S. passport or a military/veterans ID, you cannot vote in person and you must vote by mail.
If you are voting by mail, go to VoteOhio.gov to print an absentee ballot form or call the Butler County Board of Elections (513-887-3700) and have a form mailed to you. It is important to note that your completed application for a mail-in voting ballot must reach the Board of Elections by Oct. 27 and your completed ballot must reach the Board of Elections no later than end of day on Election Day.
This Election Day deadline for return of mail-in voting ballots is new in 2026. There is no longer a grace period for the return of your ballot. Allow plenty of time to request your ballot and for your completed ballot to reach the Board of Elections, especially if you are sending it via U.S. Mail.
For those voting on Election Day, polling locations are open from 6:30am to 7:30pm.
The League of Women Voters of the Oxford Area publishes a voter information guide that provides information on all candidates running for office, as well as information on the issues on the November ballot. This guide will be published as an insert in the Journal News on Oct. 4 and will be available in both the print and e-paper editions. Copies will be available at businesses throughout the city and townships and online on our LWVOxford.org website and on Vote411.org.
