OPD responds to a variety of crime reports during a busy week; two cars were vandalized with ketchup

The Oxford Police Department also responded to a fraud report at Miami Savings and a deceased male.

OPD responds to a variety of crime reports during a busy week; two cars were vandalized with ketchup

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) handled various crimes between Aug. 11 and 18, including counterfeiting, driving under the influence and failing to confine a large dog. Additionally, two cars were vandalized with ketchup by two individuals.

On Aug. 11, just before 8:30 a.m., a woman called OPD to report that someone had poured maple syrup, flour and ketchup over her vehicle, according to the department’s media report. The incident has been recorded on a Snapchat video by one of the suspects, according to the incident report, and the timestamp indicated that the vandalization happened around 5 a.m. that morning. The woman indicated that she knew the two individuals in the video.

Later that day, just after 2 p.m., another call was made about a vehicle vandalized with ketchup, according to the OPD media report. The caller found the substance on her car earlier in the morning, but cleaned it off because she had to leave quickly. She did record a video of the car. When asked, she said she knew the suspects from a similar report made earlier in the day.

On Aug. 12, just before 9 a.m., OPD responded to a fraud report at Miami Savings, according to the department’s media report. An individual attempted to deposit a counterfeit check from an account at Valley Strong Credit Union on Aug. 4, according to the incident report. Valley Strong Credit Union later called and stated the check was fake. Miami Savings contacted OPD and turned over CCTV footage of the despot, alongside other evidence.

Aug. 12, OPD was dispatched for a deceased 75-year-old man. The Butler County Coroner’s Office was contacted, and the man was taken to a funeral home.

Also on Aug. 12, at 5 p.m., OPD received a report that a juvenile female had been sexually assaulted by a male juvenile known to her.

On Aug. 13, at 4 p.m., officers assisting with Kramer Elementary School dismissal stopped a female driver, according to the OPD media report. Police found she was operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

On Aug. 14, just after 4:30 p.m., OPD was dispatched to a call about a dog at large, according to the department’s media report. Officers discovered the owners had been cited for similar violations previously, and they were cited again.

On Aug. 15, just before 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a suicidal woman, according to the OPD media report. Upon arrival, the woman agreed to be transported to the hospital and was placed on a 72-hour hold.

On Aug. 17, at 7:30 p.m., an electric scooter was stolen from someone’s front porch, according to the department’s media report. OPD has no suspects at this time.

Also on Aug. 17, just before 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a harassment report regarding a caller stating someone was threatening to shoot them, according to the OPD media report. Statements were collected, and a report was made.

Also during the week, OPD transported a man to McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital on a 72-hour hold due to a mental health crisis.
