OPD responds to assaults and arrest warrants

The Oxford Police Department also handled various incidents, including abuse of harmful intoxicants and fraud.

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to two assaults and arrest warrants between Feb. 23 and March 2.

On Feb. 24, just before 12:30 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop and found the driver had active warrants through the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, according to the OPD media report. The driver was transported to Butler County Jail.

Also on Feb. 24, just before 11 p.m., a male was observed inside a residence inhaling canned air, according to the OPD media report. The male was known to have a prior conviction, and after being evaluated by medics, was arrested and transported to the Butler County Jail.

On Feb. 26, just before 2 a.m., a male was assaulted at the intersection of East High Street and East Park Place, according to the OPD media report. He stated that the group of unknown males started a verbal altercation with him in passing, and one of them physically assaulted him, according to the incident report. The incident was caught on camera and the suspect has not been identified at this time.

On Feb. 26, just after 7 p.m., a woman reported she was defrauded out of $500 after receiving an email from someone pretending to be her pastor, according to the OPD media report. The woman said she received a message the day before from her pastor’s email address, requesting five $100 Apple gift cards as gifts for staff, according to the incident report.

The woman purchased the gift cards on Amazon and sent the codes to the scammer, and called police afterward when she realized the situation.

On Feb. 28, just after noon, a person with a warrant was located, arrested and transferred to the custody of Warren County deputies, according to the OPD media report.

Also on Feb. 28, just after 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle crash at East Church Street and Bishop Street, according to the OPD media report. The driver struck a parked car and was arrested for driving under the influence and prohibitions, according to the incident report. He was later cited and released.

Also on Feb. 28, just after 6:30 p.m., a male reported an assault at Brick Street Bar, according to the OPD media report. The male was at the bar when he was surrounded by eight males in green outfits, some of which resembled leprechaun costumes, according to the incident report.

He told police the males were from a rival fraternity he was familiar with, and after some words were exchanged, he was attacked. The OPD is attempting to obtain video footage of the attack from Brick Street Bar.

On March 1, just before 9:30 p.m., a stolen vehicle was located in a parking lot of an apartment complex, according to the OPD media report. The reporting agency requested that the vehicle be towed.

Also during the week, OPD received a theft report regarding a license plate and responded to various incidents involving underage drinking.
