OPD responds to several reports of alcohol-related violations during Miami’s first week of classes

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to several alcohol-related incidents, including underage consumption and operating a vehicle under the influence, between Aug. 24 and 31.

On Aug. 24, just after 6 p.m., a male reported being scammed out of $1,480 after applying for a loan online, according to the OPD media report.

After he applied, the company deposited $1,480 into his bank account and later asked him to return it in exchange for a larger deposit. Soon after, his bank contacted him, informing him the transaction was fraudulent.

On Aug. 24, just before midnight, a search of an intoxicated driver’s vehicle during a traffic stop revealed “open containers and a loaded 9mm firearm” in the vehicle, according to the OPD media report. The driver was arrested and transported to the Butler County Jail.

On Aug. 27, just before 5:30 p.m., a female at The Harrison reported her package was stolen, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 27, just after 11 p.m., a male was charged for underage consumption of alcohol, having an open liquor container and prohibitions, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 28, just after midnight, a male was stopped in the alley of the 0 block of North Poplar Street for an open liquor container, according to the OPD media report. The male was found to be underage and in possession of fictitious identification. He was cited and released. 

On Aug. 28, just after 3 a.m., a female in the 1500 block of Magnolia Drive reported two unknown males entered her apartment, according to the OPD media report.

The female said she heard the individuals enter her apartment before one walked into her bedroom, both quickly leaving the residence soon after, according to the incident report. There were no reported thefts or injuries.

On Aug. 28, just after 7 a.m., a male reported he was scammed by investing money into a fraudulent online company since February, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 28, just after 10 p.m., a male was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 29, eight separate individuals were charged with alcohol-related offenses, including underage consumption of alcohol and open container violations, according to the OPD media report. Three individuals had fictitious identification and one was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence. 

On Aug. 29, just after 12:30 p.m., a male reported an unknown individual took a line of credit out in the male’s name, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 29, just after 5 p.m., a male reported that another male cracked his car’s windshield by throwing a canned beverage, according to the OPD media report. The male who threw the can left the scene.

On Aug. 30, between midnight and 2:30 a.m., four separate individuals were charged with alcohol-related offenses, including underage consumption of alcohol and open container violations, according to the OPD media report. Two individuals had fictitious identification.

Also during the week, OPD responded to reports of domestic violence and disputes, and arrested individuals with active warrants.
