The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to various incidents, including thefts and stalking, between July 28 and Aug. 4. A man was also found dead in a parking lot.

On July 28, just after 2 p.m., OPD was dispatched with the Oxford Fire Department for injuries from a dog bite, according to the department’s media report. It was discovered upon arrival that a dog had gotten loose from its owner and bit a woman. The wounds seemed to be superficial, and the owner was issued a civil citation.

Also on July 28, just before 7:30 p.m., a woman came to OPD to file a telecommunications harassment report, according to the department’s media report. The woman said someone was sending her unwanted messages from several phone numbers, and she suspected it was a man she knew.

On July 29, just after 9:30 p.m., a child called police because he heard something in his house that scared him, according to the OPD media report. Two children were found home alone, and the mother returned to the residence after being contacted.

On July 30, just before 9 p.m., a couple met with an online seller outside their residence, according to the department’s media report. After handing the seller the money, he sped off in his vehicle without leaving the purchased item. There are no suspects at this time.

On July 31, just before 2:30 a.m., a woman approached the residence of her mother and daughter, demanding to see her daughter and screaming that their lives were in danger. This has occurred multiple times, according to the OPD media report, and the woman was taken into custody for menacing by stalking.

Also on July 31, just before 7:30 p.m., officers and EMS responded to a parking lot on Bonham Road for an unresponsive man who wasn’t breathing, according to the department’s media report. EMS attempted life-saving measures on the man, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

On Aug. 2, at 12:30 p.m., an unknown individual struck an unoccupied vehicle with an item multiple times, cracking the windshield and breaking a window, according to the OPD media report. The damage appeared to be from a bat or a similar item. The vehicle's owner believed she knew who caused the damage.

Also during the week, OPD responded to the theft of a package and multiple firearms found in an apartment.
