The Oxford Museum Association hosted its 61st annual Apple Butter Festival at Hueston Woods Pioneer Farm from Oct. 17-18.

According to the association, the festival “provides a vignette of 19th century farm life,” offering tours of the Doty Homestead, including the cellar and adjacent Pioneer Barn full of historical farming equipment and 1800s museum artifacts, as well as blacksmithing, spinning and weaving demonstrations.

Guests also watched apple butter being made in pioneer fashion, listened to bluegrass music and learned about local owls. A wide variety of apples, cider, apple butter, pumpkins and gourds were available for purchase alongside homemade arts and crafts, honey and other autumnal-themed foods from several vendors.

Ross Shaw, executive director of historic programs and properties, told the Oxford Free Press in an email, “We’re very happy with the turnout (for the festival).”

“We had steady crowds throughout both days, and vendors told us it was the biggest crowd they remember in the past few years,” Shaw said.
