Oxford Township warns of scammers, shares other updates in August meeting

The Oxford Township Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting on Aug. 11 at Township Hall. The Trustees reviewed and approved regular monthly financial reports as presented by Fiscal Officer VanFrank.
Road Superintendent Johnny Smith reported that he is underway with the season’s third round of mowing. He expects some fairly major repairs to both tractors will be made next month. He also reported that the bench ordered for installation at the Pioneer Cemetery on Brown Road should arrive shortly. He will prepare a concrete pad for its installation.
Police Chief Piccioni reported that in the month ending Aug. 11, the Department received 242 calls for service, made 108 traffic stops resulting in 11 citations, responded to seven crashes, took 22 reports, made five arrests and responded to 14 calls for assistance to other area agencies. He described recent scamming efforts in the Township, where a significant amount of money was lost. He advises residents to be wary of any request for money in any form (checks, gift cards, wire transfers, bitcoin, credit card or debit card) made by phone, text or email.
The next meeting of the Oxford Township Trustees will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8 at Township Hall. Virtual attendance is possible.
