Voters in Hanover Township voted yes on a fire and EMS levy.

The levy passed with 55.8% voting for it and 44.03% voting against. The 3.5 mill, 5-year levy will collect $1.1 million annually, costing voters approximately $123 per $100,000 of their estimated property value.

Hanover Township Fire Chief Paul Smith said he was hopeful about the results.

“We’re sitting here watching every second of it,” Smith said on election night. “We’re feeling pretty good about it right now.”

The money collected from the levy will be used to help cover payroll, training, supplies and other expenses.

A new fire levy first appeared on the ballot last November and failed. This is the third time a new fire levy has been on the ballot in recent years.
