Obituary: Nellie Nesselhauf
Nellie's greatest joy came from her family. She cherished every moment spent in her garden, taking pride in nurturing both her plants and her loved ones. Her talent for making quilts was another way she expressed her love and creativity.
Nellie Nesselhauf, 85, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of May 19, 2026, at Hospice of Hamilton.
Born to the late Hugh and Emma (Adams) Hornsby on Aug. 26, 1940, in College Corner, Ohio, Nellie touched the lives of many with her unwavering love and dedication.
Nellie was not only a devoted wife to her husband Donald, whom she married in 1959, but also a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. They shared 42 beautiful years of marriage. Her impactful 20-year career in housekeeping and dietary services at Miami University ended in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of care and service. As a founding member of the Oxford Church of God, now known as AP Church, Nellie's commitment to her faith was evident in all she did. She directed the choir, taught Sunday School, volunteered during Vacation Bible School, helped maintain the church and warmly greeted everyone on Sundays. She also crocheted newborn baby Afghans to welcome each new baby born into the church. Her cooking was a beloved part of the men's fellowship, particularly her famous biscuits and gravy, which will be remembered fondly.
Nellie's greatest joy came from her family. She cherished every moment spent in her garden, taking pride in nurturing both her plants and her loved ones. Her talent for making quilts was another way she expressed her love and creativity.
She leaves behind her devoted niece, Rita (Larry) McDade, and niece Jan (David) Jarvis, as well as her great niece and nephew, Josh McDade and Jessica (Ryan) Lawson and her great-great nieces and nephews: Halee McDade, Gabby McDade, Iris McDade, Lincoln Lawson, Lexington Lawson and Lyric Lawson.
Nellie is also survived by her sister, Alberta Hornsby. Nellie was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Donald, her parents, her brothers Vernon (Rosie) Hornsby and Orville Hornsby, her sister Bessie Franklin, great-nieces Krista McDade and Rhonda Jarvis, and her dear friend, Arlie Angel. In this time of grief, we are reminded of Nellie’s warmth and kindness. The family would like to thank Hospice of Hamilton and Dr. Amneet Khera of Oxford Internal Medicine for their loving care.
