OPD responds to several theft reports, stolen vehicles over two weeks

The Oxford Police Department also assisted Oxford Township Police during a stolen vehicle pursuit, in which the vehicle caused damage to Miami University property.

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to several theft reports, including stolen vehicles, between June 22 and July 6.

On June 26, just before 2 p.m., a male reported he had been scammed out of $1,800 over the past three months by an unknown person, according to the OPD media report.

The male received a call in March from someone claiming to be with Publishers Clearing House, who said he had won $2.8 million and a car, according to the incident report. The caller told the male he had to pay processing fees in the form of gift cards. The male said he sent them multiple gift card codes, but was met with excuses each time he requested the money.

On June 27, just before 3 a.m., a vehicle was stolen from the 600 block of Brill Drive and involved in a pursuit by Oxford Township Police before the vehicle struck a BCRTA sign on Miami University property, according to the OPD media report.

After the crash, three individuals exited the vehicle and fled into the woods on foot, according to the incident report. Later, three juveniles were found on Trenton Oxford Road. All were interviewed and added as suspects to the report, and the investigation is ongoing.

On June 27, just before 8:30 a.m., a male reported finding his vehicle damaged in the 200 block of Foxfire Drive, according to the OPD media report.

On June 28, just before 1 a.m., a male was stopped for driving with no headlights and was later arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, according to the OPD media report.

On June 29, just after 3 p.m., officers responded to a report of a child injured by a dog bite at Fox and Hounds Apartments, according to the OPD media report.

On July 1, just before 10:30 a.m., Capitol Varsity Sports, Inc. reported three separate incidents where credit card transactions were cancelled after products were sent out, according to the OPD media report.

On July 1, just before 7 p.m., officers responded to a suspicious vehicle report in the 100 block of Great Horned Drive, according to the OPD media report. Officers discovered the vehicle had been stolen from Hamilton and was towed at the request of the Hamilton Police Department.

On July 3, just before 1:30 a.m., an altercation between a male and a female was reported in the 5000 block of College Corner Pike, according to the OPD media report. Both were found to be underage and intoxicated, and both were cited for underage offenses.

On July 3, just after 11 a.m., a resident of The Knolls of Oxford reported someone stole around $200 from her purse, according to the OPD media report.

On July 3, just before noon, it was reported that a used oil container’s locking mechanism and potentially some contents were taken from Chop Bento, according to the OPD media report.

Also during the two weeks, OPD arrested three individuals with warrants and recovered a runaway 15-year-old.
