Oxford Free Press readers were challenged to donate $18,000 during November and December as part of a $15,000 matching gift campaign from the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) and a $3,000 matching gift campaign from the MacArthur Foundation. We are pleased to report that 150 Oxford-area households donated around $36,000 during November and December, twice as much as was needed for the Oxford Free Press to receive the match from INN and MacArthur.

The Oxford Free Press has also been awarded $3,000 from the Knight Foundation for raising more than $20,000 in local donations, as well as an additional $1,000 from INN for receiving support from at least 50 first-time donors during the two-month matching gift campaign. Thus, the total support from national organizations for the matching gift campaign is turning out to be $25,000 (subject to verification of the documents we submit in January).

For the entire 12 months of 2025, 389 different households donated around $132,000 to the Oxford Free Press. In addition, we received around $36,000 in advertising revenue, and $24,000 in grants. The grant total does not include the $25,000 match, which we are told we will receive in February 2026. Thus, our total revenue in 2025 was approximately $192,000.

Expenditures during 2025 totaled approximately $148,000. The two principal expenditures were for around $93,000 for personnel and $40,000 for printing.

As we enter 2026, Oxford Free Press is in solid financial condition, thanks to the strong individual and institutional support we received during FY2025.

From the staff and board of directors of Oxford Free Press – thank you to all of our readers for your support and encouragement. We promise to continue to provide Oxford and surrounding communities with the best possible news coverage.
