Milford trustees to update electric aggregation contract

Disaster recovery application was approved

Milford Township residents could see an increase in their electricity bills, as the township works to update its electric aggregation program.

Residents in neighboring townships, including Reily and Hanover, are already paying higher bills after their trustees recently approved new aggregation rates.

Those who opted out of the respective programs are paying Duke Energy’s current rate of 10.69 cents per kWh as of July 1.

The Milford Township trustees voted during their July 7 meeting to authorize Fiscal Officer Mollie Hansel to sign a new electric aggregation contract with a price not to exceed 10.399 cents per kWh for a term not to exceed 24 months.

The supplier will be determined based on pricing available when the contract is signed.

According to Hansel, the price is an approximation, but not an actual approved rate, as the township hasn’t put the contract out for bid yet.

Currently, the township’s electric aggregation program is through Energy Alliances and supplied by Constellation, and residents who participate in the program and pay Duke Energy are charged 8.499 cents per kWh through December. 

Participating residents who pay AES Ohio are charged 8.299 cents per kWh through December.

Hansel said a contract hasn’t been approved yet by trustees because rates are currently too high.

Trustees were also told the township’s disaster recovery application, following storms in January which were declared an emergency by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), was approved. Hansel said the township is being reimbursed $15,503 for costs related to clearing roads.
