OPD responds to theft, drug possession during first week without students

The Oxford Police Department also responded to a house fire caused by fireworks.

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to several theft reports between May 18 and 25, the first week after Miami University students left campus for the summer.

On May 18 at 4:30 a.m., a house in the 300 block of East Vine Street caught fire after a firework hit the side of the building, according to the OPD media report. Two residents exited safely, and the fire was extinguished.

On May 18, just after 8 a.m., an electric bike was reported stolen from an apartment complex in the 100 block of East Sycamore Street, according to the OPD media report. The incident happened sometime overnight, and there was no suspect information.

On May 18, just before 9:30 p.m., officers and EMS responded to Parkview Arms Apartments for a male who had possibly broken his foot, according to the OPD media report. The female at the apartment was found to have a warrant, and a search incident to arrest located two baggies of suspected “Crack Cocaine,” according to the incident report.

On May 20, just before 5 p.m., an individual reported their medication was stolen, according to the OPD media report. There was no suspect or video of the incident.

On May 22, just before 9:30 a.m., animal control responded to a report of a dog attacking two other dogs, according to the OPD media report.

A report was filed on May 22 regarding an event on May 21, where a juvenile was seen on video surveillance stealing from Wild Berry, according to the OPD media report.

Also during the week, OPD responded to two reports of unruly juveniles and conducted a welfare check.
