Several damaged vehicles, reports of underage alcohol consumption during Miami move-in

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) received several reports of damaged vehicles along North Elm Street and underage alcohol consumption between Aug. 17 and 24, which was move-in week for Miami University students.

On Aug. 17, just before 2:30 p.m., residents in the 0 block of North Campus Avenue reported missing items from their shared residence after returning from summer break, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 18, just before midnight, a driver was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence and OVI suspension, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 19, just after 8 a.m., a resident in the 400 block of East Sycamore Street reported that the night before, about five or six males threw eggs at the house, according to the OPD media report. The incident was caught on a security camera, and the suspects have not been identified. 

On Aug. 20, just before 5 a.m., a male was charged for underage alcohol consumption, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 20, just after 9:30 a.m., a resident in the 300 block of West Church Street reported furniture on the porch was stolen, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 20, just before 11 p.m., a female reported several of her packages were stolen from her apartment’s common hallway at Lang Manor, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 21, between midnight and 2:30 a.m., four separate males were charged with alcohol related offenses, including underage consumption of alcohol and open container violations, according to the OPD media report. Two individuals had fictitious identification.

On Aug. 21, just after 12:30 p.m., a male said an item he paid for on Facebook was not sent to him, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 22, between midnight and 2:30 a.m. and 7-9:30 p.m., seven separate underage individuals were charged with alcohol related offenses, including underage consumption of alcohol and open container violations, according to the OPD media report. Four individuals had fictitious identification.

Additionally, on Aug. 22, just before 9:30 p.m., a driver was arrested for underage intoxication and operating a vehicle under the influence, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 22, just after 1:30 a.m., two males were observed urinating near Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, according to the OPD media report. Both had fictitious licenses and were cited and released.

On Aug. 22, just before 3 a.m., an unknown person shattered a window in the 300 block of East Vine Street by throwing a glass bottle at it, according to the OPD media report.

On Aug. 23, between 12:30 and 3 a.m., eight separate underage individuals were charged with alcohol related offenses, including underage consumption of alcohol and open container violations, according to the OPD media report. Three individuals had fictitious identification.

On Aug. 23, just after 10 a.m., a fire extinguisher was discharged overnight in the parking garage of Oxford’s Hampton Inn, causing damage to a vehicle, according to the OPD media report. A suspect has not been identified.

On Aug. 23, multiple calls were made to OPD regarding damaged vehicles on North Elm Street, according to the OPD media report.

Six vehicles parked along the west side of North Elm Street and one along the south side of West Vine Street had damaged driver-side mirrors, according to the incident report. The timeframe of the incident has not been confirmed, but residents indicated the damage might have occurred during the early morning hours of Aug. 23. Working cameras in the area during the time of the incident have not yet been located, and a suspect has not been identified.

On Aug. 23, just before 11:30 p.m., an unknown crystalline substance was located in a vehicle during a traffic stop, according to the OPD media report. The passenger told officers the substance was methamphetamine, according to the incident report. The driver and passenger had active warrants through Butler County and were taken into custody.

Also during the week, OPD responded to reports of domestic violence, property damage and disorderly conduct.
