Oxford Township discusses constable wages, other business

The Oxford Township Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting on May 7.

Due to the resignation of a constable, there was much discussion regarding scheduling, including the proposal of some 12-hour shifts.

Additionally, a discussion about constable wages in the township was held, and a need for the trustees to review the township’s budget in a work session was stated.

Fiscal Officer Roger Van Frank shared with trustees that preparation for First Financial Fraud Protection is underway.

Road Superintendent Johnny Smith reported that work for the sign grant is almost complete. Smith is also looking for part-time or seasonal workers and contractors to help out.

Police Chief Patrick Piccioni reported that in the month ending May 7, the police department received 456 calls for service, of which 250 were business/vacation home checks, made 99 traffic stops, six arrests and responded to 16 calls for assistance to other area agencies.

Township Police collected 8.7 lbs of prescription drugs at the township drop-off at Walmart on Drug Take Back Day on April 25. A permanent and secure drug drop-off receptacle is in the Oxford Township office.

The trustees also discussed nuisance properties and data centers.

The next meeting of the Oxford Township Trustees will be at 6:30 p.m. on June 8 at Township Hall. Virtual attendance is possible through the Oxford Township webpage
