W. E. Smith Family Charitable Trust announces first round of grant recipients

The W.E. Smith Family Charitable Trust has announced $49,000 in grants to 14 history-related projects across Southern Ohio. The trust awards its grant funding to libraries, museums and other programs and organizations. 

This round’s recipients include Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, which received $5,000 to assist with costs to continue preparing stories and photos for the published series of legends chronicling the history of Atrium (formerly Middletown Regional Hospital); The Butler County Historical Society, which received $6,700 for restoration and conservation of a pen and ink historic illustration of Hamilton; the Cummins Local History Room of Hamilton Lane Library, which received $3,000 for purchase of archival sleeves to preserve Cummins historic photographs; the Friends of Harriet Beecher Stowe House, which received $1,000 to assist with costs of equipment, software and program expenses for an oral history project; the Friends of White Water Shaker Village, which received $899.96 and $857.50 for purchase of banners for Shaker innovations exhibition and for supplies to build an enhanced traditional Shaker garden; the Harmon Museum in Lebanon, which received $1,690 to cover costs of supplies for history craft programs and costs for posters, digital ads, flyers and other program promotional costs; the Mariemont Preservation Foundation, which received $1,500 to assist with costs for completion of digitization project by intern; the Miami Military Institute (MMI), which received $10,000 to assist with costs for completion of historical marker and interpretative sign markers at the MMI Memorial Park; the Middletown Arts Center, which received $7,500 to develop, present and advertise a steel industry exhibit inspired by and featuring the Armco Steel Corporation; the Middletown Historical Society, which received $5,346.41 to assist costs of recreating and hosting concerts for the Armco Band; the Oxford Museum Association, which received $1,200 to purchase materials and equipment for use in the activity shed, which includes items related to caring for the historic collection and used for special programs and projects; the Smith Library of Regional History of Oxford Lane Library, which received $3,000 to acquire an Adobe Creative Cloud license and funding for a telephone book digitization initiative; and the Wyoming Historical Society, which received $1,167 to complete the Village Historic District marker project.

Second round applications are due by Oct. 15.
